The namesake of my blog

Keeping Busy! Is it me or do we all ask people what’s new all the time?  I ran into an old friend last week and he asked me, “What’s new?”  Saw another friend for the first time in a couple weeks and we both started with, “What’s new?”  Even at work talking with contacts that I talk to all the time the question of “What’s new?” comes up all the time.  I wanted to start a blog for a few reasons.  1- So I could answer next time you all ask me that question. 2. To create and publish answers to all questions that I have… and if you know me I have questions about everything. 3. I think it’s dumb that people get discouraged from building their own homes.  I find the lack of info frustrating and I want to blog about the process of building so you all can find the info you need somewhere!

3 weeks ago I was heading to church and I was a little early.  It was a sunny, but chilly morning so I figured that I would drive around town to kill the extra time.  I often find that driving is a great time for me to clear my head, think and pray.  This particular day I was thinking a lot about what I should be doing with my life and where I was headed.  To make a long story short one of the outcomes of that drive was that I felt I needed to sell my house and build a new one!  So over the last 3 weeks, I’ve been networking looking at costs and making a plan to build a house over the summer.  Tomorrow I’m going to be listing my townhouse and this whole project is going to get real.

I’ve never really been the kind of person to have trouble throwing myself into things.  When I was in high school it was sports.  Getting that extra practice time, weight room work, or whatever I was typically pretty busy.  Nearly 10 years later after serving an LDS Mission, graduating college and getting my first adult job, I find myself struggling to disconnect when it’s time to leave the office.  So I’ve learned that I have to plan something else that I can work on or take care of at night so that I can change gears.  I have found that when I do this I feel better about my career as well as about myself and my life in general.  So this summer and fall my house is going to be that evening project and I’m going to take you all through the process step by step.  I’m planning to write down questions that I have along the way and as I find the answers post them here.

Well, thanks for reading my first post.
